A Methadone Clinic Indiana Keeps Open

By Traci Witt

Various people from all walks of life can benefit from the methadone clinic Indiana offers to its citizens. If you are a resident of Indiana you can find and enter a program in your home town relatively easily. The hardest part is often getting in due to the wait list. As ridiculous as it may sound, the wait list for such places can be very long.

This is because there are generally more people needing such a program than there are spots available. Although this is not what someone needing help wants to hear it might be all that they can get. There are some private clinics available as well, but sometimes a person might not have the funds or the insurance for it.

When methadone is involved there are usually those who make quick assumptions about the patient seeking treatment. They assume they might be a junkie or a bad person or even someone who is too weak to make the proper decision in their lives. This medicine is not always something given to heroin users and often has various other uses.

Methadone is one of the longest last opiates when it enters a humans system. Most opiates will last for anywhere from 4-6 hours with varying degrees of relief. With methadone the effects can last for up to 24 hours and there is none of the other effects usually associated with opiate use. For example, there is no rush or high or even the standard euphoria that typically comes from opiates.

Of course when someone first uses the drug these effects are present but in lower amounts than normal. After a couple weeks of use they disappear and the user does not feel the drug in their system at all. This is the main reason it is used to treat drug abuse or patients having a hard time getting off of other drugs.

It can be used for pain relief or breathing difficulties just like other opiates. There is however one thing that must be taken into consideration with this drug and that is its strength. By comparison to other similar opiates it is a much stronger medicine and unless a patient is already used to taking these drugs they should not be given methadone.

Unfortunately it is very strong and if someone is not used to taking such drugs like opiates they may not be able to handle it and therefore cannot use it. If however they do have a tolerance to such things their body can handle it and they can reap huge benefits from using this versus other similar medications.

A methadone clinic Indiana state offers to patients is a huge help if you can get in. That is not always possible however and if not people should be aware that private clinics do exist and often have openings when state run facilities do not. There is always help for those who need it and want it, but it will not come looking for you. If you fully accept that you need the help then seek it out and you will have it.
