The Importance Of Using Rambo Rugs

By Paulette Mason

Insects and adverse weather sometimes make it necessary to protect equines using fabric. Rambo rugs are the coats or blankets used to achieve this. The rugs differ in shape and size to either cover the equines fully or partially. The position of the fabric on the body is maintained by straps which are normally included in some designs.

The market is currently flooding with different kinds of Rambo coats. Some designs are closed at the front while most coats include straps and buckles in their designs. Closed designs are wrapped onto the horse only by slipping them over the head. Buckles and straps are locked under the belly. Small straps may be used to loop around hind limbs to prevent sideways movement.

Many different kinds of fabrics can be used to manufacture these products. Some include cotton, leather, poly-cotton, wool, canvas, and polar fleece. The severity of the weather should determine the thickness of the blanket chosen. In cold regions or during winter, high-thickness coats should be used possibly once with several layers of material. Injuries should be avoided by choosing products with smooth fabric on the inside. The outer surface should have waterproof fabric to prevent water penetration.

There are many kinds of blankets in use currently and they include summer sheets, rug liners, fly sheets, cooler, exercise, stable, travel, turnout, under, fleece, and anti-sweat rugs. Each rug type performs its function best under specific climatic conditions. Horses grow a winter coat that maintains the body warm even when temperatures fall below zero during winter. Other factors such as biting insects, rain, wind chill, and humidity still make blankets a necessary requirement.

Rain water can also soak the winter coat on horses making very ineffective at conserving heat. With the reduced efficiency, the animal is left chilled to the skin. Also, cold air can reach the skin when strong winds blow off the winter coat. On the other hand, during summer, a lot of discomfort is caused to horses due to strong sunshine. These reasons and several others make it worthwhile to protect horses using blankets.

Various biting insects are another primary nuisance to the equine family of animals. Rugs are primarily used during summer to keep off such insects. Fly rugs are the best for providing a cover against insects as well as maintaining adequate airflow to the skin. Some equines react severely to insect bites hence caution must be exercised.

Also, aged animals are affected more by cold and heat than young ones. Therefore to help young and old animals to maintain proper body temperatures, it is wise to rug them when it is cold. Sick horses must also always be safeguarded from bad weather.

Rambo blankets cost differently depending on many factors. Major factors affecting prices are quality, additional functionalities, extra accessories, size, fabric used, and application. Comfort can only be ensured when one invests in the top of the range brands available in the market. Certification of a product must also be checked before buying it.
